The Christi Thomas Memorial Fund has donated a $110 scholarship to the Ritz Theatre for a needy area child to attend Christi’s treasured “Ritz Camp” this summer. The Missoula Children's Theatre travels all over the world in the summer - teaching thousands of children! Christi always had a fabulous week, learned so much and made many friends! It is a wonderful self-confidence builder and we hope another child will greatly benefit from this scholarship this summer! We think Christi must be happy about giving another kid the opportunity to attend. During her three wonderful years at theatre camp, she was in all her glory! February 20, 2008
A $1,000 donation in honor of the volunteers who make the Pet’s Vet program at the Ronald McDonald House possible was awarded to the University of Penn’s Vet School on February 20th. As many know, very special memories of Christi were created for us through the Vets’ Pet Program as well as at the Vet Hospital where they would allow Christi to have special tours and to “assist” with the animals’ care. It therefore has a very special place in our hearts and we are grateful that it has been renamed the "Christi Thomas Vets' Pets Program!" The volunteers who bring their pets to the Philly Ronald McDonald House are remarkable. Christi (and Shayla) loved the program which has been renamed the “Christi Thomas Vets’ Pets Program”. It always raised their spirits to see a pet at the house. (Christi often missed her two cats while she had to be away from home). A photo memory of each visit remains a prized keepsake for our family. February 20, 2008

Christi was never able to read all of the books she wanted to read before her own story came to an end. Christi had a stack of books lined up, waiting to be read, when she died. With a $250.00 donation from the Christi Thomas Memorial Fund, the library purchased ten audio books Christi would have really enjoyed reading. The girls would often listen to stories as we would drive from place to place. We think this is a great tribute to a little girl who loved going to the library. The inscription in the audio books read, “In Memory and Celebration of Christi Thomas, an avid young reader.” I hope her friends and all of the children in the country check these books out and enjoy them. September 4, 2007 $500 Donation to the Early Childhood Classroom at Heidelberg College Funds were utilized to purchase items needed for the Early Childhood Classroom on the campus of Heidelberg College.
Christi read “Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand” to the students in this classroom and answered their many questions. We think the little teacher would be happy to help get needed materials for these sweet college students. May 12, 2007 Christi's Tea Party In honor of what would have been Christi’s Tenth Birthday, a celebration took place in the form of a Tea Party on Saturday, May 12th at noon. “Christi’s Tea” was a fundraiser for the Christi Thomas Memorial Fund. Shayla, Christi’s sister, and Alice in Wonderland served as the hostesses. It was a sold out event! This event, held on Mother’s Day weekend at the Mohawk Country Club in rural Tiffin, allowed the young and old to spend precious time together. Additionally, entertainment was provided by the Megan and Hannah of Dance Unlimited and the Seneca East Show Choir. Alice in Wonderland and various characters (played by Christi’s COSI friends) were on hand. Guests took home a souvenir and other “goodies” One lucky little girl won an American Girl doll! Many other auction items were also raffled for fundraising. The Birthday Party Committee would like to thank “Wal-Mart” for their help and generous sponsorship. The Thomas team would like to express their deepest thanks and appreciation to all of the amazing volunteers involved in coordinating the event and to everyone who attended or sent a donation!! An elderly gentleman carved a beautiful sign and they officially named their student library the "Christi Thomas Student Library" in honor of Christi and her love of reading. (The Chatty Cathy Club also met there after lunch from what we are told.) This $1,000 donation will be used to purchase books for “Christi’s Corner” where they’d like to arrange some of Christi’s favorite titles and for other needed areas of the library. October 5, 2006 In Memory of Christi Thomas by Diane Armstrong, Ph.D. Christi Thomas was a remarkable young girl. In the nine short years she graced our earthly lives with her presence; she touched and changed the lives of literally thousands of people. A brilliant, talented, kind, compassionate, and loving child, she lived each day to the fullest. Whether she was drawing, painting, dancing, playing the piano, visiting COSI and art museums, or just curling up with a good book, she taught all of those who knew and loved her what it means to make every day count.
When she brought Alex & Christi’s Lemonade Stand to Heidelberg and charmed our Education Majors with her reading of “Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand,” Christi Thomas became a part of who we are - a community of learners seeking ways to make the world a better place. In Isaiah 11:6 it states: "The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall life down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them” And lead us she did. Through her lemonade stands which raised over $12,000 for pediatric cancer research, to her blood drives, and through her ability to serve as an example of what matters in life - the love of family and friends - her legacy lives on. Today we dedicate this tree in Christi’s honor and memory. The plaque that will soon be placed her permanently, will read: “Our Little Lemonade Girl” In memory of Christi Thomas, May 12 1997 - September 19, 2006 - Heidelberg Education Department. It is with love, humility and thanks to the entire Thomas team for sharing your wonderful daughter with us that I present this replica of this plaque to Angela and Shayne Thomas, also forever honorary members of the Education Department. |
